Position Summary
Provide personal care to Elders and help them with all individual daily care to keep them independent as long as possible; and maintain quality of life for Elders by providing a clean, healthy, safe environment.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
Personal care provided in a dignified manner to Elders:
- Bath, toilet, incontinence management, mouth care, dress, shave hair and nail care, social interaction, feed
- Communicate and try to obtain cooperation from Elders, co-workers, family members, supervisors
Cleaning
- Maintain the tidiness of the Elder rooms by straightening closets & bedside tables, clean wheelchairs, catheter bags, commodes/urinals/bed pans, wash basins, care carts
- Distribute clean linens and towels, change soiled bed liners
- Follow manufacturer's guidelines for tub cleaning & disinfection
Nutritional Care
- Feed and/or assist with feeding Elders as per care plan
- Open cartons, cut food, place items within reach
- Push the snack cart & distribute food & fluids to the Elders
- Provide fluids throughout each shift
Transferring & Repositioning
- Porter Elders to dining rooms, bedrooms, activities
- Empty garbage and linen bags from care carts to housekeeping cart
- Transfer Elders from bed to wheelchair etc.
- Use mechanical lifts to transfer residents from bed/chair/toilet
- Repositioning residents in bed using transfer sheets
- Application and removal of lift slings when using mechanical lifts
Charting And Reporting
- Documentation on PSW Personal Care Record, each shift to reflect ADL, behaviours, contingency, & mouth care
- Daily documentation on dietary flow sheets to reflect fluid & nutritional intake
- Log repair or maintenance issues in the maintenance binder
- Report to Team Leader changes, concerns, or Elder situation that may occur during the shift
- Complete audits as assigned by the Supervisor
- Mechanical lift safe start up sheets must be completed prior to equipment use
General
- Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
- Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis

Experience
Summer Student Positions With The County Of Lambton May Be Dependent On Funding And The Funding Criteria, Which Specifies That Students Must
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age
- Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Will not have another full-time job
